Technology and Innovation Committee familiarizes with OCCI efforts

The Technology and Innovation Committee of the State Council today held its sixteenth meeting of the first annual session of the seventh term, headed by Hon.Dr Maryam bint Abdullah bin Rajab Al Awadiyah, Committee Head, in presence of the honorable committee members and General Secretariat employees. 

 

 


The committee hosted several officials of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) to add value to its studies titled “Draft law on investment in technology and innovation” and “Cyber ​​Security". 

 

The committee reviewed with the Chamber delegation a number of aspects of the two studies.

 

With regard to the study of the draft law on "investing in technology and innovation", the meeting discussed the challenges faced by OCCI in the investment fields available to the technical sectors, including the field of research, development and innovation, as well as legislative and practical proposals that the specialists experience in the chamber for creating a stimulating investment environment for innovation in technical fields.

 

It also discussed the  Chamber’s work in particular, the current situation of investment in technical fields at the Sultanate’s level, in addition to the current and future role of  the Chamber  in creating a stimulating and supporting environment for developing investment opportunities in the fields of technology and innovation and financing research and development.

 

The committee also discussed with OCCI,  the axes of studying a draft of “Cyber Security Law” including: the tasks that the chamber performs with regard to cyber security in terms of procedures, technology, manpower, legislation, strategies, regulations and practices that the chamber operates within its framework to activate its role at the national level, and the volume of cooperation and integration between the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other institutions to activate cyber security at the Sultanate’s level, in addition to learning about the capabilities  available to the Chamber to activate its role in the field of comprehensive cyber security and the Chamber’s proposals and visions to enhance cyber security at the national level.

 

The delegation included Dr. Al Fadhl bin Abbas al-Hinai, CEO of OCCI, Firas Bin Ali Al-Abduwani, Founder & CEO, and Mohammed Al-Abduwani, COO of Hussam Technology Company (HTC) and Chairman of the Chamber’s Small and Medium Enterprises Committee, Dr. Nasser Bin Mubarak Al-Malki, Director General of National Business Center (Oman) and Omar bin Salem Al-Hashemi lawyer and legal advisor of the Chamber.
